Radio Caroline is a British radio station with a rich heritage in offshore pirate radio, which originally launched in 1964 and operated until 1990 from the North Sea.
During the 1990s, a series of short term RSLs (Restricted Service Licences) were operated until a satellite service with a full schedule launched across Europe from a studio in Maidstone, Kent.
The station went Internet only in 2013 with occasional RSLs and also provides a time delayed service for the United States. Caroline is also participating in the small scale DAB Digital Radio trials for Birmingham, Norwich, Portsmouth, Brighton, London, Woking and Aldershot.
From December 22nd 2017, Radio Caroline became a community radio station for North Essex and South Suffolk with programmes originating from Kent or the Ross Revenge ship, moored on the River Blackwater.
In late 2021, the AM signal was expanded to cover East Anglia and the South East of England.
