Freeview Play enabled LG Smart TVs will launch in the 1H of 2016, combining the award winning webOS platform and catch up services with a backwards EPG – providing the most advanced and seamless Smart TV experience ever.

LG is the latest manufacturer to offer the subscription-free service, which launched last October, ensuring that LG can continue to deliver both the best in picture quality and access to an unparalleled selection of streaming services. The service will launch on webOS 3.0 devices later this year.

Freeview Play currently combines catch-up TV from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, on-demand services and live television with more services due in 2016. Combined with LG’s renowned webOS service and other content partnerships, including NOW TV, Netflix, Amazon and Google Play, LG will provide an unrivalled selection of services for consumers to enjoy in the UK.

Andrew Mackay, COO LG Electronics UK and Nordics, said: “We recognise that as part of our efforts to deliver the best overall premium viewing experience we need to offer our customer’s choice; the choice to watch what they want when they want it. We’re delighted to partner with Freeview Play as it enables LG to offer customers the best content, the best user experience and the best displays, culminating in a supreme overall viewing experience.”

Guy North, Managing Director of Freeview, said: “We believe that Freeview Play is set to be the new normal way of watching TV and I’m really pleased to welcome LG on board as a partner. Sales of Freeview Play TVs and set top boxes have already shown sharp increases since launch, with our accompanying advertising campaign making millions of consumers aware of the benefits the service can offer them. I look forward to the platform continuing to grow throughout 2016.”
