Former Seven chief of staff joins 10 News First Queensland as executive editor

Network 10 has appointed veteran journalist and former Seven chief of staff, Josh Adsett, as executive editor for 10 News First Queensland.

On Thursday afternoon, Paramount Australia and New Zealand confirmed the Brisbane native will take on the role.

He brings over 25 years of experiencing covering Queensland’s most significant stories, having started at Seven Local News in Mackay, before moving to the Seven News Brisbane and Gold Coast bureau, where he made his mark as reporter, story producer, then bureau chief. Most recently, Adsett was chief of staff at Seven News Gold Coast.

His appointment comes months after he was let go from the rival network, amid the huge mid-year restructure that saw other staffers including Sharyn Ghidella also axed. Network 10 also recently scooped Ghidella up, as well as Liz Cantor, former Seven weather presenter.

In the new role, Adsett will lead the 5pm bulletin, guiding the 10 News First Queensland journalists and crews.

“Josh has everything that we pride ourselves on,” said Martin White, head of broadcast news at Paramount Australia and New Zealand.

“He is a great journalist, a quality news maker, and a good person and leader. I look forward to seeing the success he brings, as we continue to ramp up our investment in local news in Queensland.”

Of his appointment, Adsett said: “The recent re-investment back into Queensland by 10 News First is testament to the enduring nature and commitment of the network. Every single person in the Sunshine State can expect to be informed and entertained by our daily bulletins. TV News is exciting. It’s meaningful and important. We have a duty to keep our leaders to account, and highlight the incidents and achievements which impact the lives of us all. The coverage you’ll see on 10 News First is sourced, researched, produced and presented by proud Queenslanders.

“10 News First is stepping up for Queenslanders. We have the most driven team of any news service. Presenters who deliver stories with strength, compassion, an intimate knowledge of their craft and the workings of our great state.

“A change has come to Queensland News, and 10 News First is meeting it head on. Our team is experienced and loyal, and I am excited to be a part of it.”
