BBC Three is giving fans the chance to see the new series of hit comedy This Country before anyone else.

The critically-acclaimed series, set in the Cotswold village of Northleach, is back for a second series and fans in Gloucestershire are being offered the chance to see it first.

A preview screening is being held in Cirencester, Gloucestershire on Monday 5 February. Tickets are free and are allocated through a ballot.

Those who get tickets will join the cast and production team for the screening of two episodes of the new series followed by a question-and-answer session hosted by BBC Points West’s Steve Knibbs.

Steve Knibbs announces more details of the ticket ballot live on BBC Radio Gloucestershire this morning (Monday 15 January).

This Country, written by and starring Gloucestershire-based siblings Daisy and Charlie Cooper, is a mockumentary exploring the lives of young people in modern rural Britain. The new series continues to focus on cousins Kerry and Lee 'Kurtan' Mucklowe and their lives in a typical Cotswold village.

The first series of the show won over critics and has been watched more than four million times on BBC iPlayer.

The stars of the series, Charlie and Daisy Cooper, are expected at the event along with producer Simon Mayhew-Archer and director Tom George.

Pat Connor, director of BBC South West, says: “It’s great news that BBC Three are previewing This Country in its Gloucestershire home. This is a very special opportunity for comedy fans to enjoy two episodes of the new series and hear from the uniquely-talented cast and crew on their home turf.”

Simon Mayhew-Archer, producer of This Country, says: “The reaction to the first series of This County was fantastic and we are hoping fans love this next look at the lives of Kerry and Kurtan just as much. It’s an honour to be previewing it in Cirencester, a place which Daisy and Charlie are proud to call home."

The ticket draw opens at 9am today (Monday 15 January), and closes on 10pm on Sunday 21 January. Everyone who registers will be entered into a random draw. To apply for tickets go to www.bbc.co.uk/showsandtours

The second six-episode series of This Country is set to return to BBC Three in Spring 2018. The series is commissioned by Shane Allen, Controller of Comedy Commissioning and Damian Kavanagh, Controller of BBC Three.

This Country is a BBC Studios production, produced by Simon Mayhew-Archer, directed by Tom George and executive produced by Stephen McCrum.

The whole first series is available to view on BBC iPlayer as a boxset.

Notes to Editors

  • Please note that as tickets are free, people often request more than they need, so we have to issue more tickets than there are seats available to ensure a full house. We do consider carefully how many extra tickets to issue for each show, and it is rare that we have to disappoint ticket holders, but we recommend arriving in good time. Entry into the show is on a first come, first served basis, and is not guaranteed.
