NEW YORK — The President of Scripps Sports, formerly the individual who directed the operations of The E.W. Scripps Co.’s broadcast TV stations, has been named the recipient of the Broadcasters Foundation of America (BFOA) 2025 Golden Mic Award.
Brian Lawlor will be presented with the honor at the BFOA’s annual black-tie fundraiser, scheduled for Monday, March 10 at the Plaza Hotel in the City of New York.
“I am honored at this recognition from the Broadcasters Foundation, a charity that brings much-needed help to our colleagues,” Lawlor said. “I have been a supporter of the Foundation and serve on their Board, and I know first-hand the heartbreaking stories of those who we help.”
Scott Herman, Chair of the Broadcasters Foundation, commented, “Brian is a leader in broadcasting, who guided Scripps to expand their portfolio of stations and become one of the largest television groups in America. His hard work at advancing the mission of the Broadcasters Foundation, as well as his contributions to the television industry, makes him a perfect candidate to receive the Golden Mic Award.”
The Broadcasters Foundation Golden Mic Award is presented annually to an individual for their excellence in and commitment to broadcasting, and their ongoing service to the community at large.
“Brian is a highly respected member of the television broadcasting community and a staunch supporter of the Broadcasters Foundation,” added Tim McCarthy, President of the Broadcasters Foundation. “We are delighted to bestow on him this well-deserved honor.”
Lawlor has been in his current position since December 2022, and is responsible for the strategic focus and development of partnerships for all sports rights for The E.W. Scripps Company’s ION Network and its local television stations. Prior to his current role, Lawlor spent 14 years leading Scripps’ Local Media division, where he oversaw the rapid growth of the company’s broadcasting assets from 10 TV stations in 2009 to its current portfolio of 61 stations.
In 2021, Radio & Television Business Report named him one of “Broadcast Television’s Best Leaders.”
Lawlor is a board member of the Broadcasters Foundation and the National Association of Broadcasters Leadership Foundation.
