ITV1 is a national general entertainment channel owned by ITV plc.
It is the UK's longest running commercial television channel, launching in London in September 1955 under a regional franchise system of different companies who used different brand names until 2002 when the owners of the majority of the ITV franchises rebranded as ITV.
In 2004, ITV plc was formed when Carlton and Granada merged, then acquired ITV franchisee Channel Television in the Channel Islands in 2011.
ITV supplies network programming to two ITV franchises not owned by the company, STV who own two franchises in Scotland.
