CGTN is a 24-hour English news channel, of China Central Television, based in Beijing. It was formerly known as CCTV News.
In February 2021, the British regulator Ofcom banned CGTN, it had discovered the licence-holder Star China Media Limited, had no editorial oversight of the channel’s output, which is a legal requirement.
In retaliation, the Chinese broadcasting regulator banned BBC World News a week later inside mainland China.
