Who’s Succeeding Karen McCrary Mitchell At iHeartMedia?

In May 2023, Karen McCrary Mitchell was named Market President for two iHeartMedia markets in the Mid-South. Now, a successor has been named, taking control of the company’s radio stations in those two locales.


Now in the position overseeing the Memphis and Tupelo, Miss., markets for the nation’s biggest owner of broadcast radio stations is Leon Williamson. He takes the role by moving from the company’s Indianapolis market, where he was Market President and Senior VP of Sales. Williamson will oversee eight stations in Memphis and six in Tupelo.

Williamson reports to iHeartMedia Kentucky/Memphis Area President Kristy Beebe. She said, “Leon brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success in our industry. His leadership and vision will be instrumental in driving our continued growth and success in the Memphis and Tupelo markets. Leon is not only a seasoned professional but also a dedicated supporter of the community actively involved in various initiatives, demonstrating his commitment to making a positive impact. Williamson has been associated with iHeartMedia since March 2021, when he became a Senior Account Executive in its Miami-Fort Lauderdale station group. He relocated to Indianapolis in August 2022. Prior experience includes serving as Local Sales Manager and Digital Sales Manager for Urban One in St. Louis, from December 2012 to April 2016. From October 2006 through November 2012, he was a Senior Account Manager at Cox Media Group in Miami-Fort Lauderdale.
