The BBC visit BCB

Bradford's community radio station BCB106.6fm was visited last week by BBC management.

The BBC's Director General, Tony Hall, popped in with the BBC Controller of English Regions, David Holdsworth, who was born in Bradford. The Head of BBC Yorkshire, Helen THomas, also accompanied them, alongside Managing Editor Rozina Breen and other staff from BBC Radio Leeds.

They spent an hour in the building meeting with BCB staff and volunteers, and had a long conversation with BCB Director Mary Dowson.

BCB has been forging closer ties with the BBC in recent years. BBC Radio Leeds now has a political reporter based out of the community radio station after the closure of the BBC studios in the National Media Museum.

BCB Director Mary Dawson said ‘It was a great honour to host the visit. We were delighted that Tony Hall and David Holdsworth wanted to come to Bradford and see BCB106.6fm Community Radio in action. They were really interested in how we all worked and impressed with what we were able to achieve with comparatively little resource’.

BCB was initially based opposite the city's commercial radio broadcaster The Pulse, now Pulse 1, close to Forster Square. Both stations have since moved.

In other news, Vale of Belvoir community radio station The Eye has had its license renewed by Ofcom for another five years.
