Sound Women, the networking and development group for women in radio, is kicking off 2015 with a regional tour- taking in Newcastle, Birmingham and Brighton to inspire and excite women already working or interested in getting into the audio industry.
Guest speakers will include Sound Women Patron, Angie Greaves – Magic FM, Sony Award Winner’s Clare McDonnell – BBC 5 Live, BBC Kent and Amy Voce from Gem 106 (pictured). The days will run on Saturday’s through January and the start of February from 1.30pm – 5pm to enable access to as many people within the regions as possible. Each afternoon will offer essential training with the programme set to feature a ‘Self-Confidence’ session, a podcasting session from established podcast creator Helen Zaltzman - offering tips and advice about launching a podcast off your own back, and information on how to make a career from independent broadcasting.
There will also be information on how to become a Sound Women member - essential to the long-term sustainability of the organisation. The afternoon will finish with the requisite Sound Women networking social drinks.

Regions Leader Lucy Duffield highlights the importance of engaging the regions; “It’s really important to Sound Women that it’s not London centric. As an ardent northerner, I feel passionately about making sure there are events in the regions that are exciting for those wanting to work in the industry. Many people don’t have access to anything like this and we hope that our combination of speakers, workshops plus locations will attract a wide range of people. We’ve aimed to reach areas that are accessible from all corners of the UK, whether it’s Cumbria or Scotland for our Newcastle event or Buckinghamshire for our Birmingham event”
There is already a lot of regional activity happening across the country. So far, events this year have included ‘Negotiations Techniques’ in Salford in April and a Freelance Pitch Training Day in Bristol in July.
