#RAJAR - Orion Media at three year high

The latest radio audience figures, published by RAJAR today, indicate significant growth for Orion Media and its brands Free Radio and Gem 106. Total reach for the Midlands-based commercial radio group has grown by 8% this quarter, with total listening rising by 6% in the same period.

Gem 106, home of the multi award-winning breakfast show “Sam & Amy”, regains its position as the most listened to commercial radio station in the East Midlands, with 477,000 listeners now tuning in each week - a 12% increase in the last three months. Total listening for the station is up 12% since last quarter.

The Free Radio network (FM and 80s) continues to strengthen its West Midlands audience, celebrating a 6% growth in reach this quarter, making it the most listened to commercial radio brand in the region.

Free Radio in the Herefordshire & Worcestershire, Coventry & Warwickshire and Shropshire areas all enjoy their highest ever reach since the birth of Free Radio in 2012.

Also enjoying success is Free Radio in the Birmingham and Black Country area, where the weekly reach has increased by 9% in the last three months, and in Coventry & Warwickshire, Shropshire and Herefordshire & Worcestershire, where Free is the most listened to commercial radio station in each area4.

Free Radio 80s (West Midlands) shows a growth in listeners of 31% in the last three months with total listening growing by 40% in the same period.

Orion Media Chief Executive, Adrian Serle, commented: "This is a strong set of figures and it’s particularly pleasing to see reach growth for all of our stations in the last three months; and leading market positions in the East and West Midlands for both brands".

Editor's note: Orion Media itself has posted 1,249,000 listeners this RAJAR survey. This is a three-year high for the company.
