KLFM is well known for winning awards, having picked up 2 ‘Sonys’ for UK Radio Station of the Year and winning the Nations & Regions for the past 4 years in a row. But it’s now focusing on winning something else: Using all that power, all that skill, and all that love to make a big difference to the people who tune in every day.
The radio station, which broadcasts a 32% reach of West Norfolk every week, is announcing their vision of becoming “Indispensable to our Community.”
It already works very closely with local charities and not-for-profit organisations, giving away £1,500 worth of airtime each month as part of their Charity of the Month initiative. The station also delivered almost 2000 Christmas presents in December to sick and underprivileged children across the area as part of its annual toy appeal.
But Managing Director Darren Taylor says that in his mind, this is not enough.
“I think the power of radio and KLFM in particular is enormous, and while we’ve done a lot over the last few years, there’s always more we can do’’.
With this in mind they have today announced a new ‘Community Editor’. Emily Bull will be putting her considerable talents in communications and social media to good use. They will also be properly launching their Charitable Trust ‘KLFM’s Cash In the Community’ after a successful auction at Easter last year. It will raise money and then distribute it to local good causes and those in need around the local area.
Emily is a familiar voice for listeners as she reads the news each morning and has become an increasingly important part of the Adam Newstead Breakfast show. She will be staying on air in the mornings and then getting out and about across West Norfolk and Wisbech fundraising, hosting events, and much more.
Emily says: “KLFM has massive reach out into our local community. We have the contacts, the skills, and the drive to do something really special. We are pretty convinced that we could raise a hefty amount of money if we put our minds to it. Meanwhile there are struggling local groups doing great work but with none of the above. The solution is obvious really. KLFM’s Cash In the Community will bridge that gap and really help to make this part of the world a better place.”
