There are two obvious front-runners for the hosting chair when Lisa Millar departs ABC breakfast show.

If recent episodes are anything to go by then the two hot contenders for News Breakfast co-hosting roles are ABC’s Bridget Brennan and Emma Rebellato.
Both have undertaken multiple hosting duties in place of Lisa Millar, who announced her departure yesterday after five years on air.
Both Brennan and Rebellato have tackled morning television’s Live diet of news, politics, business, arts, science, medical and more. On the ABC show the demands are compounded by the absence of ad breaks.
Bridget Brennan (pictured left) is currently newsreader, and credited as a co-host on News Breakfast.
She was previously the ABC’s Indigenous Affairs Editor, Europe Correspondent in London and the National Indigenous Affairs Correspondent. She’s covered Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities for more than a decade and is a Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta woman.
South Australian-born, Emma Rebellato (pictured right) joined the ABC in 2008, and has covered events ranging from bushfires and politics to sport. After graduating from UniSA with a Bachelor of Arts (Journalism), she worked in the Riverland and Adelaide radio before becoming the first breakfast newsreader at Nova 919.
ABC is yet to announce Millar’s successor. She departs on August 23.

I like both of these, and both better than Lisa. I wish, though, that they would stop having only women hosting if Michael is away. It feels so unbalanced as the two women echo each other’s views back and forth. There is a lack of diversity of perspective when they are interviewing too. It happens on the weekend as a regular thing, and I would really like to see Joanna Nicholson paired with one of the male presenters more often.
Both would be great choices. I must admit when Virginia Trioli left, I was resistant to Lisa’s posting, but it didn’t take long for her to find her own groove and it was perfect. So for whomever gets the job, give them a little time coz the rest of the Breakfast team will let them find their rhythm fast enough.
For me, chemistry wise, I’d say Emma with Michael. Emma has more range in tone and style for the magazine news format that Breakfast is. They could look outside the box and choose someone else too.
Lisa was the only reason I still tune in to it…
