It owns eight radio stations serving such Illinois communities as Clinton, to the north of Decatur, and Taylorville, to the southwest. Soon, these properties along with a trio of online platforms and a digital division will be assets held by another locally based owner, with its operations outside Springfield, Ill.
According to local media reports, The Miller Media Group of Taylorville, Ill., has struck an agreement to sell its assets to the Matt Hart-led Hart Media Group LLC.
Financial details will be revealed in an asset purchase agreement awaiting filing in the FCC’s LMS for regulatory approval.
The broadcast assets are comprised of the following properties serving Taylorville, Pana and Shelbyville:
- WTIM-AM 870, with FM translators serving Taylorville, Shelbyville and Pana
- WRAN-FM “Groovy 97.3”
- WSVZ-FM “Cruisin’ 98.3”
- W281BO “New Country 104.1”
There is also an online radio station, “96-5 The Chill,” and the online newspaper Taylorville Daily News
In Clinton, MMG is divesting WEZG-FM 95.9 and WHOW-AM 1520, with FM translators in DeWitt County and in McLean County, respectively.
MMG has owned the Taylorville properties under the Miller Communications division since 1992. MMG’s has owned the 6 Taylorville radio stations, and its on-line daily newspaper taylorvilledailynews.com, since 1992. M-M-G’s Kaskaskia Broadcasting division has owned the Clinton radio stations, and online daily newspaper dewittdailynews.com, since 2008.
MMG is led by President Randal J. Miller. In prepared comments, Miller said he’s been blessed to serve both markets for the majority of his 43-year ownership career. At the same time, he’s excited about Hart’s company continuing the legacy of local radio.
Hart will retain Miller for a year during the transition.
Hart is a Taylorville native and was a former part-time announcer on WTIM in Taylorville in the 1990s.
The deal is expected to close by the end of Q3 2025.
