Broadcast Journalist

A full-time journalism job at Radio Exe in Exeter
Posted 27 December 2017, 3.12pm gmt

Radio Exe is searching for a full-time journalist to source and write stories, record and edit interviews, then compile and read bulletins on our successful commercial station in Devon. An independent company based in Exeter, we broadcast across much of the county on DAB and across Exeter, Mid and East Devon on FM. This job reports to the managing director, but will liaise daily with our programme manager. The primary function is to produce stories and bulletins that engage with our broad audience of Devon listeners, as well as provide content for our social media platforms.

You’ll be:

  • An excellent communicator with a great voice
  • Energetic, creative and talented
  • Comfortable broadcasting live and, where necessary, interacting with presenters
  • Conversant with all relevant journalistic guidelines, including the Broadcast Code
  • Resourceful and enterprising: full of ideas about how to create off-diary stories
  • Sufficiently resilient to work in a pressured environment
  • A self-starter; you’ll be compiling most of the news output on your own, whilst being a key part of a very small team
  • A fast worker; as well as the hourly routine of bulletins, you’ll be updating our website and providing content for our social media platforms
  • Adept with studio technologies; ideally RCS’s Burli news software and Zetta playout system
  • Able to cope with tight deadlines and competing demands on your time
  • Happy to absorb constructive criticism and use it to improve your skills

Please don’t apply if:

  • You’re more comfortable with a regular nine-to-five job
  • You need high levels of support
  • You prefer relying on press releases rather than generating ideas and getting them to air
  • You want to be out and about reporting live from the scene of events as they happen or at press conferences, because this is a studio-based job
  • You don’t know much about Devon

How to apply:

Please email a short example of your newsreading and/or reporting and, ideally, a link to any online work you’ve done. To hear bulletins before you apply, you can listen to Radio Exe on 107.3FM or on DAB in Devon, or through our free mobile app for iPhone and Android. We’re on RadioPlayer and TuneIn Radio too.

This job closed on 21 January, 2018 so we’re afraid you can no longer apply for this role.
