East of Palm Springs, the Coachella Valley of California has become world famous for its staging of the annual music festival which takes its name for the geographical region between the Riverside and the Arizona border.

Here, a silent FM is being traded. Upon FCC approval, it will become the property of a 50/50 partnership led by Managing Partner William K. Watson.

Gary DeMaroney and his Copper Mountain Broadcasting Co. has agreed to sell KKCM-FM 92.1 in Thermal, Calif., to Watson and Sergio Herrera, doing business as WKW Broadcasting.

Copper Mountain is also the owner of KXCM-FM in Joshua Tree, Calif., and that station is not being traded.

The transfer of control, should the Commission say yes, will resolve an outstanding bill with the FCC for past-due regulatory fees. Some $9,703.24 is owed to the FCC for fiscal years 2021, 2022 and 2023, the asset purchase agreement shows.

Once that is taken care of, DeMaroney can pocket the remainder of the $15,000 he will receive for selling KKCM-FM.

To pay for the station, Watson and Herrera are agreeing to a secured promissory note under which WKW will give to Copper Mountain $150, payable over eight years and four months.
