Pro-independence daily backs bid to fly Scottish flags for coronation

Pro-Scottish independence daily The National has backed a campaign aimed at getting people in Scotland to mark the coronation of King Charles III by flying Saltires.

The Newsquest-owned daily, which is based in Glasgow, has splashed on calls for a National Saltire Day to take place this Saturday.

Organisers have dubbed the event “Bonnie Blue Flag Day” with the aim of providing international media with images of Scottish Saltires contrasting against Union Flags.

The plea made The National’s front page yesterday.

Organiser David Macey-Lillie told the newspaper: “I thought with all these street parties on with Union Jack flags everywhere, what could we do? We could stick a Saltire on our window.

“It means we know we’re doing something for Scotland and the movement, and not something for the Yoon fest. It’s literally that, the simplest thing ever.”

HTFP has approached The National for a comment.
