- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2006Why did I buy this book, am I a big fan of Chris Moyle's, well no, not really, although what I have seen and heard of him on both radio and television I quite enjoyed. The reason I bought the book was because his mum and dad live quite close to me. Not the best reason for buying a book I agree, but it worked for me. I really enjoyed it. This book is not an ego trip by someone who expects to be recognised and worshipped wherever they go. It is a book about a man who is good, some say very good at what he does.
Many people have said that he is the saviour of radio. I don't know about that. He is certainly very popular as his listening figures show. He speaks his mind and of course by doing that he instantly alienates a number of people who feel offended by that. Some say he is a bigot. I suppose that depends which side of the fence you are on. I have seen him walking round a certain area of Leeds many times. I am sure he would like me to say well built, rather than overweight, usually smiling and with stubble that Bluto of Pop Eye fame would be proud of. He does not walk around with a flashing badge on his lapel saying I am Chris Moyle's, look at me I am a star. But the guy is definitely a lot more talented than many who class themselves as such. Even proving to the viewing public that he had a much better voice than many who are making a living in the singing business.
If you are interested in radio, either national or local this is the book for you. There are some great anecdotes in the book and plenty of stories about his family and friends and his incredible journey from teenage DJ on a mental hospital radio show to the nation's favourite breakfast show DJ on Radio One.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2006The Diary of Fatty BumChops age 40 and 3/4, is a marvelous journey through the life of comic tradegy Kris 'Fatty BumChops' Miles. Barely a page passes without needing a corset to stop your sides splitting and the yawns are endless. Being 10 pages long, it does get a bit tedious and repetative at times, but the continual name dropping and self indulgence make up for that.Overall, the 'Hairy Potato' has managed to pull it off.
Well done Tubs!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2006for a book of just over 300 pages and only containing only 17000 words i was impressed that the author could string words together un like his radio 1 show which is a belter it was a nice touch by aled to finish the book for chris after his untimley on air death at the hands of comedy dave
a modern classic this book can only be compared to the likes of postman pat does dallas and the other great modern classic the highway code it was also a nice touch by putting in the free cd of cheesy windows which has been covered by marilyn masnson
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2006Funny stuff but who would have thought that behind all this brass exterior is a real human with feelings.
Talks in depth about his secret sexual relationship with "comedy" Dave and reveals family life as a child.
When you read about his trauma of having a Penis defect, its truly heartbreaking.
A good read anyways, its a shame that more dont have access to this fine autobiographical account
- Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2006Having read this book whilst waiting to drop the kids off at the pool, i was amazed to learn so much about Mr.Moyles despite his success. Most of the time it's hard to really learn anything about A-list celebrities, but not Chris Moyles. He delivers it with passion and precision.
First class read.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2006This is by far the best book I ever read. I laughed, I cried and I couldn't put it down. Chris is as amazing a writer as he i a DJ. The only thing that would make this book better would be if it was a paperback so I could carry it round with me all of the time.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2006Oh how we adored the late seventies, early eighties !! Especially with the rotund ones personal playlist at the Leeds Top Shop. (I think Moyles' still shops there from the peek at the pictures inside this first completed book !?)
I guess the rest of us will have to wait until October when he's finished with the crayons and writing by numbers simplicity that this tome affords us,before we can fully appreciate the fantastic insight into the inner sanctum of Chris' world.
JC need not worry about 'The Gospel According to Chris Moyles".........Jeremy Clarkson,I mean of course !!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2006This autobiography was so good, the words so carefully chosen - you just simply couldnt make it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, & An Insight Into Radio!
Now I may have given this book 5 stars because I am not being totally impartial. The reason for this is that I work at one of Chris Moyles former radio station called The Pulse. The time Moyles worked at the station is mentioned is great detail and tells the story of how he was sacked from The Pulse. It is a well known story that still gets talked about here, but the story gets passed round like Chinese Whispers, so it was great to finally the story from the horses mouth!
I had the chance to meet the great man himself when we set him up at the talk he did in Leeds a couple of years ago, and said I looked like a young version of Johnny Vaughn. Not sure if that was a good or a bad thing! Either way, he is a top bloke.
The book is a true insight into the workings of radio, be it national radio or local radio, the same things happen. It is a fantastic read, and had me laughing. If you want to know how radio works then you will love this book. If you are just a big fan of Moyles, you will love this book.
Another great thing I loved was how Moyles has written the book. At certain points this big bold text will appear highlighting a funny line.
I am a huge fan of Peter Kay and have read his book which was great, but I would pick Moyles book anyday, just as it is so honest and a proper warts and all autobiograpghy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny book
An easy to read, funny book from Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles. It's definitely an insight into the world of the DJ and if you liked his radio shows, you'll love this book. Definitely missing him on the breakfast show and not really found anyone to replace him!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Kind of funny
I love chris moyles, I think he is hilarious and this book is very much his kind of humour. Parts of it are really interesting and genuinely funny, however I did find it dragged in places when he talked of stories which felt like they had no meaning or went nowhere. That said the book is one of the better autobiographies I have read, it's not all pointless filler as he guides you through his journey to getting his job at radio one. If you're a moyles fan or interested in getting into radio I think it's a good read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I thought it would be
I think Chris has held back a lot here. It's not as open and forthright as I had come to expect from Moyles so I was disappointed to be honest
